Rosewood Mandarina: The Newest Resort on the Coast

Costa · Local guide to the Mexican Pacific coast · Updated October 2026
Rosewood Mandarina opened in spring 2025 on the Mandarina property, 45 to 60 minutes north of the airport, and it was ranked first among Nayarit winners in Condé Nast Traveler's 2026 Readers' Choice Awards. It is a different mood from Punta Mita: more jungle and cliff, less manicured peninsula.

The resort

Sources differ on the exact opening day, April or May 2025, and on the room count, which they give as somewhere between 134 and 140. Call it a little over 130 suites and villas, each with a terrace and a plunge pool. The design draws on the Huichol and Cora cultures of the region.

Eating and drinking. La Cocina Mandarina is the beach restaurant, Mexican in focus. Buena Onda sits by the pool with Spanish-leaning plates and drinks. Barra Peñasco is a cocktail bar perched on the cliff. Toppu, a Japanese restaurant up on the mountain, was slated to open later in 2025.

Wellness. Asaya Spa runs treatments rooted in local traditions, plus family-oriented wellness programs, and there is a spiritual hike to the La Abuela tree for people who want something less spa-like.

What there is to do

Surfing, pickleball, yoga, ziplining, a ropes course, polo lessons and horseback riding are all on the activity side, and the Explorers Club keeps children busy with nature programs.

Next door, Mandarina's nine-hole short course, designed by Greg Norman's firm, opened in March 2025 and is open to guests, residents and the public, with Chukker, an Argentine asado restaurant, on site. The Mandarina Polo and Equestrian Club plays its matches from November through March on a ten-acre field.

Mandarina or Punta Mita

They suit different trips. Punta Mita is the polished, gated peninsula with two Nicklaus courses and a cluster of beach clubs. Mandarina is newer and sits 45 to 60 minutes north of the airport, with a look that is closer to jungle and cliff than to a golf resort.
