Surfing in Punta Mita and Punta de Mita: Every Break, Honestly
The breaks, one by one
La Lancha. A short jungle walk off the highway opens to a long, gentle right that peels forever. It is the classic Punta Mita longboard wave and the friendliest place to find your feet, beautiful and uncrowded on a good morning.
El Anclote. The main wave in the village of Punta de Mita, right in front of the beachfront restaurants. Mellow and rolling on small days, a longer point on bigger swells. This is where the surf schools run their lessons, so it is the beginner hub.
Burros and Stinky's. Reef and point breaks a few minutes along the coast that hold more shape and reward intermediates. Quieter than El Anclote, and better on the right swell.
The season
Winter, roughly November through March, brings cleaner northwest swells and the best long-point days. Summer leans smaller and playful with occasional south swells. There is almost always something to ride, and the water rarely asks for more than boardshorts.
Surf from your doorstep
Inside the gated peninsula, the newer surf-focused residences market surf-at-your-address living, with La Lancha and the point breaks minutes away. If your real religion is dawn patrol, that proximity is worth pricing in.
Beyond the point
Twenty-five minutes north, Sayulita and San Pancho add more beginner beachbreaks and a livelier scene, and Litibu offers space when the points get crowded. Tell me how you surf and who is coming, and I will point you to the right break and the right place to stay or buy.
