Food in Punta Mita: Where to Actually Eat, Named Places
Private chef, in the villa
Most villas here can arrange a private chef, for one dinner, a few nights, or the whole stay. It's the easiest way to eat well without leaving, and it pairs naturally with a villa that has a kitchen and dining space built for it.
The resorts
The St. Regis runs Carolina, an AAA Five Diamond dining room under chef Miguel Soltero, plus a sunset terrace for something lighter. The Four Seasons splits the difference between Bahia Ocean Grill, beachfront with a Thursday cooking class and a prime rib burger people actually talk about, and Aramara, its Asian-leaning room named for a Huichol phrase meaning "sacred place by the ocean," known for five-spice duck and a yuzu cheesecake. Both hotels will seat outside guests, so a resort night doesn't require a resort stay.
The beach clubs
Sufi, the club at Playa Fortuna, does its own kitchen with a tortilla soup and a red snapper al pastor locals order on repeat, plus whale-watching from the tables December through April. Hector's Kitchen, with rotating tasting menus and a black sesame panna cotta, has built a following wherever it's currently set up along the point.
The village
Punta de Mita's village, mostly strung along Avenida El Anclote, is where the prices drop and the food gets more specific. Casa Teresa, on Calle Pez Vela, bakes a 15-layer lasagna in a wood-burning oven and runs a Sicilian menu on a family-style patio. La Pescadora makes its guacamole and salsas table-side and runs a fresh tuna tartare. Lobster Paradise is exactly what it sounds like, beachfront, lobster and ceviche, feet near the water. Rosa Mexicano stays open until 11pm with live music, later than most places on the point. For a simple taco instead of a resort dinner, Norma's in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood has been doing family-run tacos and pozole long enough that Norma herself still comes out to talk to the table.
