Surf Lessons and Board Rentals
Where lessons happen
The Surf Atlas describes La Lancha as the main location for surf lessons because its beach wave is short and forgiving. El Anclote and Stinky's also suit first sessions. Wavetribe notes that some outside breaks need boats, and that crowds are low at boat-only spots.
What to ask a coach or school
| Ask | Good answer |
|---|---|
| Which break and why today? | Based on swell, tide and your group's level |
| How many students per coach? | Small ratios for beginners |
| What safety gear is included? | Soft board, leash, rash guard |
| Are you comfortable with kids and teens? | Specific experience with young surfers |
| What is the plan if conditions are poor? | Alternative break or land practice |
| Do you pick us up? | Door-to-door from the villa is convenient |
Board rental
For experienced surfers, bring or rent a board suited to the break. Longboards, funboards and fish work for La Lancha and the village breaks. Shortboards suit the hollow reefs. Ask in advance, because the right board is often in short supply during high season.
Let the villa do the logistics
A good concierge can book a coach, arrange transport, store boards and coordinate breakfast around dawn sessions. Ask Costa which villas are set up for surfers.
Who this is not for
If your group wants a surf-camp atmosphere with several coaches in one place, a camp in a surf town may suit better than a private villa.
Tell Costa your dates and who surfs in your group in the chat, and we will match you with the right villa.
