Why most guests choose November to April
The dry months offer the most reliable weather for swimming and snorkeling, according to local guides, and the sea is usually calmest on winter and spring mornings. Whale season is also the reason many guests come: last season ran from December 8 to March 23, and the official 2026-27 dates had not been published when we checked, so plan on early December to late March.
The Marietas Islands are best visited in the dry season, and fishing for marlin and sailfish is strongest from December to May.
Why some guests choose summer
Summer water is the warmest of the year, at about 28 degrees Celsius, and the landscape is green. Rain, storms and swell can interrupt boating, and September and October are the main risk months for storms, so keep travel dates flexible and consider travel insurance.
