Villa Staff Explained: Who Is Included

Costa · Local guide to the Mexican Pacific coast · Updated October 2026
A staffed Punta Mita villa typically includes a chef and housekeeping, and often a house manager, gardener and security, with some villas adding a butler, drivers or optional babysitters and trainers. What is included varies by property, so ask for the exact team, hours and overnight arrangements before you book.

The roles, one by one

Rental Escapes, a villa rental specialist, describes the roles found across staffed Mexican villas: a chef who plans and prepares meals, a house manager who oversees the property and team, housekeepers and a laundress, gardeners, security guards, drivers, bartenders and waiters. Larger villas add a second cook or kitchen assistants, and some have a butler who greets guests and anticipates requests.

Who is there overnight

Practices differ. Some villas have security on property overnight, others rely on community security and a manager on call. Ask the specific villa. Punta Mita's gated communities add their own layer of access control.

Tipping the team

No published standard covers villa staff. Afar's Mexico tipping guide recommends 15 to 20 percent at sit-down restaurants in beach destinations and tipping in pesos. For villa staff, ask the house manager how the team prefers to be thanked. Many guests leave a combined tip at the end of the stay, split among the team, but follow the villa's guidance.

Matching the team to your group

Six guests who mostly eat out may need only housekeeping and a chef on selected days. A family of twelve celebrating a birthday will want the full kitchen team, a driver and perhaps a bartender. Costa helps you choose a villa whose team fits the way you want to spend your days.

Who this is not for

If you want a house with no staff coming and going, ask for a villa that can be self-catered or where staff come only at set times.

Tell Costa your dates, group size and what you want the team to handle in the chat, and we will match you with villas that fit.
